I just close my eyes & bring it on home again

“I am always drawn back to places where I have lived, the houses and their neighborhoods.”

This is of course the première ligne of one of my all time favorite favorites–Truman Capote’s novella, Breakfast at Tiffany’s. And I, although not Holly, feel just like she, only minus the flashy Manhattan backdrop and my very own nameless slob of a cat. (The caboose I’m good to pass on though)

Speaking of being drawn back to places long left– I saw a most frightening advertisement for my beloved hometown today. I was enjoying a (very) rare day off by getting a pedicure. Imagine my shock when I flipped through Real Simple magazine to find a whole page advertisement for Asheville. I wanted to rip it out but resisted as sometimes they get a little touchy when you mess with their (?) magazines. Anyway, it had this surreal, 70ish hippy feel and said, “Asheville, any way you like it.” Seriously? That is Asheville’s new tag line—”any way you like it”?? I can’t find the actual, traumatizing ad anywhere but I did run into some other interesting things online. Apparently, Asheville started a semi-viral campaign where they asked people to film their own videos about what Asheville means to them and why people should go there to visit. The site reads, “The Any Way You Like It Video Contest asked entrants to produce and direct a 30-second commercial that promoted Asheville as an enriching, diverse, and vibrant destination. We wanted people to show us their version of an unscripted Asheville moment. And the response was great.” They have already selected a winner but for some reason I can’t watch said video. However, some runner-up videos are shown here. It’s funny, watch!

This, on the other hand, is one of the actual commercials airing on TV.

If anyone can actually find this 1958 version I’ll love you forever.

Red Rocks in the morning, weather permitting. May 1st and snow–only in You Wish, Colorado.
